Light
What is real,
Darkness
Or light?
Does light illuminate the darkness,
Or is it darkness
That extinguishes light?
If I had to pick one
I think I would say light;
For it is light that came into the world
When all was black and lifeless
At the very beginning;
Light destroys the darkness
Yet darkness
Cannot truly destroy light.
Just as flickers of light
Are beginning to shine out of the gloom
That I have been immersed in
For so long,
So it shows
That although the light within me
Was being suffocated
And in the depths of my depression
I lost any sense of it at all,
It was still there.
What an amazing feeling now
To sense these small sparks inside
Shining intermittently
Yet courageously
Into the heavy blackness
That encases me.
