Wonderfully and Fearfully Made

Masterpiece
Why should one matter
One individual
When there are thousands
Millions?
In the grand scheme of things
How important is one life
Would the world
Not be just the same
Without it?
Like a beach
Minus one grain of sand;
An ocean
Minus one drop of water;
A field
Minus a single blade of grass;
Surely only one
Would not be missed
In the big picture?
And yet –
Each grain of sand,
Drop of water
And blade of grass
Was formed so intricately;
Every sparrow in the field
Was created purposefully
One by one.
In this way
Each one of us
On this earth
Is fearfully and wonderfully made
In the very image of God;
He knows the number of hairs on my head
He knit me together
In my mother’s womb …
There is no person quite like another
There never was
And never will be
Another you
Or another me.
So yes,
We matter,
Each one of us,
Infinitely and incomparably;
No matter how big the crowd
Each one
Is God’s most precious child,

His masterpiece.
