A clear Spring day

One Spring Morning

Pansies smile at me from their flowerbeds
Bright yellow daffodils sway
in the light spring breeze
The sky is pastel blue
I can count only one wispy
White candyfloss cloud.
The birds chirp from their perches
In the blossoming cherry trees
And the sun gently kisses my bare arms
With her golden warmth.
But despite all this life
Vibrancy and beauty
And the half smile I manage
As the friendly checkout operator
Wishes me a lovely day
My insides remain dark and hollow;
I feel barren and empty.
It seems the whole world
Is happy...

Except me.
