The Day after the Storm
Today the sky is azure blue
Wispy cotton wool clouds
Strewn sparsely across it
Like white candyfloss.
The heavens have rained themselves out
The face of the earth
Is cleansed
Refreshed;
It even smells renewed
Fresh and full of promise.
The storm has passed
The dark skies
Gone.
I wish the rain
Would do the same
To my insides…
Yes
They will surely be back
But right now
There is peace
The birds sing
Tunes infused with hope
Contentment.
I will be still
And let the fingers of the sun
Reach out
Softly stroking my skin.
Right now
I will try to open myself
To be filled
With even a fragment
Of that calm;
Right now
I am safe.
